Quick Unplanned Trip to Newquay - May 2016

After a stunning day on Friday it was a bit overcast on Saturday.  Not that it bothered us!  After a lovely lie in we put our walking boots on and spent the day out walking from the site to Trenance Gardens and Boating Lake (where we saw black swans), along the Gannel estuary, up along Fistral beach (where we watched the Thundercats racing!) and back to the site along the coast path.

We were both pretty tired by the end of the day so we had an Indian takeaway delivered to the site and an early night!
All being well, we'll be off to the Cotswolds first week in June.  That's our next booked trip as we tend to avoid the Whitsun bank holiday away!

Quick Unplanned Trip to Newquay - May 2016

Unfortunately we had to cancel our booked Cotswold trip due to the unexpected death of my Step-Dad.  We have managed to re-arrange it all for early June.

So just before we headed back to Berkshire for the funeral we decided to sneak away for the weekend to prepare ourselves.

We only travelled the short distance down to Newquay to stay at one of our regular sites, Porth Beach Touring Park.

It was a lovely sunny weekend, just what the doctor ordered, so on the Friday afternoon we walked into Newquay and met up with my Dad and Step-Mum for lunch before heading back to the site where we enjoyed a BBQ sat outside in the evening sunshine.

Later that evening we had a stroll up onto Porth Island to watch the sunset and we spotted a rock pipit (a first for us!).

Early May Bank Holiday - Charlestown

Sunday was a completely different day, mizzle, drizzle, yuk!  We had always planned for a trip out in the car with our friends that day so it didn't deter us.  After a full English breakfast cooked by our friend (and it was delicious) we made our way out.  First stop, even after the breakfast, was the pub in Pentewan (The Ship Inn) where we had booked a table for their Sunday carvery.

After lunch we all needed a walk so we headed down to Charlestown (where Poldark is filmed!).  It was still a bit damp but there were plenty of people around.  There were a crew in the harbour setting up for more filming but I am reliably informed that it wasn't Poldark this time but a new American drama.

Once we got back to the campsite, it was time to pack up and head home that evening.  A great time was had by all, spoilt only slightly by some unruly kids on the campsite and some completely ignorant parents!  We would go back to the site but not during school holidays!  Lesson learnt.

We're off again in just over a weeks time.  10 days in the Cotswolds so watch this space!

Early May Bank Holiday - Mevagissey

We had all planned on catching the bus for the next leg, to Mevagissey, as the 'hill climb' was scaring us all but of course we missed the bus by minutes and it being Cornwall there wasn't another one for 2 hours!  So our friend decided to go back to the campsite and collect his car.  Once he was back he took us all into Mevagissey for lunch.  We sat overlooking the harbour in the warm sunshine eating fish and chips (whilst fighting off the seagulls!).  After lunch we had a wander around the pretty harbour before heading back to the campsite.

That evening our friends were supposed to be out but their plans changed so we all ended up in the their motorhome for an evening of food and prosecco!
