For Easter we headed back to Cheddar Bridge, our now traditional Easter destination. This year there were 10 of us staying on site in various outfits, from motorhomes to a static and even an Airstream!
We arrived Thursday late afternoon and after pitching up we spent the evening catching up with the others who had chosen to arrive early.
On Good Friday, before the rest of our gang arrived, we had breakfast and walked into Cheddar. From there we followed the National Trust footpath up into the top of the Gorge. It was really steep and seemed to go on forever but the huffing and puffing was well worth the views from the top. We followed the path back down and came out at the top of the Gorge, where we walked back down into the village through the Gorge. There were people everywhere, walkers, climbers, moochers - great for the local economy.
We had lunch in the village sat outside a tearoom people watching! That evening we had a BBQ on site with some of the gang and then drinks in Cheddar that night.
Our next stop was Fistral beach, one of Newquays most popular and famous surfing beaches. There was lots of work going on in and around the surfing complex, mostly repairs from the destruction caused by the winter storms.
The weather was closing in on us on the way around to Pilchard Point which made for some wonderful colours of the sea and sky.
We ventured into town from Pilchard Point for some lunch before heading back to the campsite for the rest of the afternoon.
That evening we walked into Newquay again, to watch the football and have a meal.
We were homeward bound again on Sunday morning but will definitely be back to Porth again later in the year.
Next trip for us is Easter. Cheddar Bridge again but there are 10 of us staying this time so we're looking forward to being very social!
From the boating lake we crossed over and walked up the Gannel estuary.
We managed to sneak away for a long weekend in March, only down to Porth just outside Newquay to one of our favourite quick get away sites. The weather wasn't fantastic but when have we ever let that stop us?
We got there on the Friday afternoon and walked into Newquay along the coast path, where we had a couple of afternoon pints!
On our return we spent the evening on site and had an Indian takeaway delivered.
Saturday morning was a bit drizzly but after breakfast we decided to spend the day walking, whatever the weather.
I'm not sure how many miles we did but it was a long way. From Porth we headed across Newquay to Trenance Gardens and the boating lake, where there was loads of bird life!
On Sunday we decided to have a 'lazy' day so we just wandered into town around Porthmeor Beach. The wind was back and had whipped up some wonderful waves. Fantastic to just stand and watch, and many people were doing so.
At Porthgwidden Beach the damage caused by the now infamous Winter storms to the iconic beach huts was clear to see. We hope they are repaired and looking as good as new soon.
After spending the afternoon chilling out in the camper we had a meal in town that evening and a few drinks.
We were homeward bound on the Monday sadly but it won't be long until we're off again so watch this space.
