Shortly after celebrating Mike's 50th birthday in Cheddar we were off again to celebrate mine! We headed down to our favourite site in St Ives with THAT stunning view. The forecast, again, was doom and gloom but we couldn't have been luckier. OK it was windy (and that's not great high up on the headland!) but we've been there and done that many times!
We arrived just before lunch, parked up, plugged in and popped open the Prosecco. Well, truth is I did and Mike had a brew! After a glass or two we headed into town for a light lunch and a pint (not of Prosecco!) before enjoying an ice cream sat overlooking the harbour.
After an afternoon nap (we are 50 after all!) we headed back down into town for a meal that evening. We couldn't believe how busy it was along the harbour side and then we discovered that the lifeboat was being launched. We had a fantastic meal, a few ciders and a bit of football in the Lifeboat Inn that evening before watching the lifeboat being brought back in (it had 'beached' just outside the harbour walls on the low tide and had to be towed in!).
It was Mike's 50th birthday on the Saturday so we were taken out for the morning by my Uncle and Auntie. They took us to Burnham-on-Sea for a wander (and Mike bought himself a new watch!) and then to a small café overlooking the sea for lunch. By the time we got back it was almost time to get ready for the evening. 13 of us enjoyed a wonderful Indian meal at Cheddar Cottage with wine supplied by the owners of the campsite (how nice was that?!). A good time was had by all!!
On Easter Sunday we were up early to visit the local car boot sale. We didn't find it as good this year but the hit and miss weather was probably a factor. After the boot sale we headed into the village for lunch in a small tea room and then spent the afternoon chilling. That evening 6 of us went for a meal and a few drinks. How quickly did Easter go? No sooner than we had pitched up it seemed that we were packing up to leave on Easter Monday. Everyone had a great time and we look forward to doing it all again next Easter, same time same place!
We're now in the process of cleaning and re-packing Bessy as we're off again on 6th April. St Ives is our destination to celebrate me catching up with Mike!!!
We were both so looking forward to our now annual trip to Cheddar because not only we were catching up with the regular Easter gang (now known as the Cheddstockers!) but we were celebrating Mike's 50th birthday too!
We left home at what felt like the crack of dawn (6:30am!) to get up to our motorhome dealer in Somerset for Bessy's first habitation service (which thankfully she passed with flying colours!). They provided us with a courtesy car so we spent the morning out and about locally before heading to Cheddar Bridge Touring Park to pitch up for the long weekend. We spent the evening with friends and family, who were also staying on the site.
Good Friday was a glorious day, couldn't have asked for more. Mike and I put on our walking boots and enjoyed a lovely walk along the river and around the Cheddar reservoir. Along the way we were lucky enough to hear a woodpecker, a skylark and a bitterne. We also spotted frogspawn for the first time in years. The spring lambs were all happily bleating away and the reservoir paths were full of dog walkers enjoying the warm sunshine.
Later that day the rest of the gang arrived and once pitched up we all sat outside catching up with them and getting to know the newbies. We all spent that evening in the pub!
