Finally it was time for our first 'big trip' of 2017 and we had decided to stay 'local' and tour around south Cornwall. We had booked our first 2 nights at the Looe CC site to enable us to spend some time with my Dad & Step-Mum while they were staying in Looe for the week.
We arrived on Friday afternoon to dull skies but set up in the dry and had lunch in Bessy.
We had arranged to meet up with Dad & Sue in Looe, which was a short 2 mile walk (downhill!) from the site. We set off and got half way and the heavens literally opened! We were soaked through to the skin so decided to walk back to the site to shower and change. Later that evening Dad picked us up and we enjoyed a lovely meal and a few drinks in town before getting a taxi back up to the site.
Saturday, thankfully, could not have been any different. We awoke to lovely blue skies and warm sunshine. So, after breakfast we decided to walk down into Looe via Millendreath and then up along the coastal path. So glad we did as it was beautiful. Once in Looe we met up with Dad & Sue again and had a pasty on the beach for lunch. We spent the rest of the day in Looe wandering around the town and harbour and then walked back up to the site for the evening.
We got soaked on Friday and sunburnt on Saturday. That's the UK for you!
With Easter being a bit later this year our annual trip to Cheddar was delayed until mid April, and it had felt like a long time coming! Last year there were 15 of us, but this year we were down to 6. It still turned out to be a brilliant long weekend.
We travelled up to Somerset literally at the crack of dawn on the Thursday as Bessy's annual habitation service was due (and I'm pleased to report that she got a clean bill of health again!). We checked in before 8:30am and spent the morning having breakfast and a wander in Burnham on Sea before returning to pick her up and drive the short distance to Cheddar Bridge Touring Park to pitch up. We spent the afternoon chilling out on site. The first of our friends arrived late afternoon so we had a drink with them that evening before returning to site with a yummy Chinese takeaway. More drinks with them followed later that evening!
On Good Friday we were visited by my auntie and cousin. We caught up with a brew and cake sat outside before heading into Cheddar for lunch in one of their many tearooms.
That evening our other friends had arrived on site so all six of us had a meal and a few pints in a pub in Cheddar.
On Saturday we all did our own thing, ours was to catch the bus into Weston-Super-Mare for the day. It was dry (as was the whole weekend!) but nippy. On arrival we had coffee and an early lunch in a pub sat overlooking the pier before having a wander down to the old pier and back.
That evening we had our traditional get together in the best Indian restaurant in the West, Cheddar Cottage. A great time was had by all.
On Easter Sunday we visited the local car boot sale (as we always do!) and it was literally heaving! People everywhere, out and about enjoying the warm sunshine. I bought some lovely azaleas from the plant man, who we've bought from before. Mike bought more tools!!!
After the boot sale we had lunch on site and then spent the afternoon wandering around Cheddar, which once again was really busy. I managed to treat myself (again) to a new bird feeder from the wood carvers shop in the Gorge.
We ate out in a pub in Cheddar again that evening and then had an early night, ready for our journey home on Easter Monday. All too soon another Cheddstock was over but we plan to do it all over again in 2018!
