Lake District July 2017 - Cheltenham

After literally getting up at the crack of dawn we hit the M6 south after a wonderful time in the Lake District, 7 days and only 1 with rain - not bad for that area!

We had just one night left before heading home and so we returned to the lovely adults only site near Cheltenham and it was baking hot, so after pitching up, having a bite to eat and walking to the local Asda for supplies, we spent the rest of the day sat outside, having a few drinks and a BBQ.  A fantastic way to end a fantastic holiday.

Home called the next morning but it never seems a chore to go home to Cornwall.

We have nothing booked now until September.  Not sure how, or if, we'll last that long but watch this space.

Lake District July 2017 - Bowness & Claife Heights

Friday was our last full day in the Lake District.  From the 'back gate' of the campsite you can wander to the car/foot passenger ferry across Windermere to Hawkshead.  We took the ferry as foot passengers (50p each, each way - bargain!) and walked up to the little National Trust place of Claife Viewing Station where there is a stone built look-out with lovely stained glass window surrounds.  The views are stunning.

After catching the little ferry back across to Bowness we walked into town via Cockshott Point for our last wander.

That evening we walked back into Bowness to meet up with some of my colleagues and customers from Head Office (based in Blackburn).  A few of them had booked into a B&B in Windermere so we could have a catch up (as we live so far away!).  We had a few drinks (!) in a few pubs and a lovely meal in the Albert Hotel before retreating back to Bessy.

Lake District July 2017 - Bowness & Ambleside

On Thursday we decided to go on one of the many boat trips on offer directly from Bowness.  We'd been to Ambleside before but not on the boat so that's the trip we chose.  Again, the weather was overcast but warm and the lake was very calm.  We bought our tickets from the kiosk and boarded our boat (Teal) for the trip to Ambleside.

First stop in Ambleside was the Wateredge Inn for coffee sat overlooking the lake.  We then walked into Ambleside for a mooch around.

For lunch we decided to picnic in Rothay Park.  While we were eating we saw a sparrowhawk chasing some fledglings, trying his luck!  After we'd eaten we walked through the park and along to the river where we were lucky enough to see a grey wagtail, mistle thrush and a dipper.

We then made our way back to Waterside to catch the boat back to Bowness, where we had another wander before heading back to the campsite to shower and change.  That evening we had a lovely meal in one of the many Chinese restaurants in town.  Back on site later that evening we were treated to a lovely rainbow!
