Lake District July 2017 - Bowness & Ambleside

On Thursday we decided to go on one of the many boat trips on offer directly from Bowness.  We'd been to Ambleside before but not on the boat so that's the trip we chose.  Again, the weather was overcast but warm and the lake was very calm.  We bought our tickets from the kiosk and boarded our boat (Teal) for the trip to Ambleside.

First stop in Ambleside was the Wateredge Inn for coffee sat overlooking the lake.  We then walked into Ambleside for a mooch around.

For lunch we decided to picnic in Rothay Park.  While we were eating we saw a sparrowhawk chasing some fledglings, trying his luck!  After we'd eaten we walked through the park and along to the river where we were lucky enough to see a grey wagtail, mistle thrush and a dipper.

We then made our way back to Waterside to catch the boat back to Bowness, where we had another wander before heading back to the campsite to shower and change.  That evening we had a lovely meal in one of the many Chinese restaurants in town.  Back on site later that evening we were treated to a lovely rainbow!
