South Devon - July 2018

On Thursday morning it was time to move on again, to our last campsite in south Devon.

We'd stayed at Hillhead (between Brixham and Kingswear) many times in the past and always been lucky to find a nice pitch with a partial sea view and this time was no different.  When we arrived on site the wardens were cutting hedges on a particular pitch we had our eye on, so after a short conversation with them we bagged it and waited for them to finish.  Once set up we had lunch sat outside, where we spent the rest of the afternoon.  We had another BBQ that evening!!

Friday morning we woke up to another stunning day so caught the bus down into Brixham for a wander around the beautiful  harbour side.

Whilst in Brixham we discovered that there was a ferry from the harbour to Torquay.  It was only £2 each (single) so we bought our tickets and wandered around by the fishing boats to catch it. It was a half hour trip and well worth the money.  On arrival into Torquay we headed to the pub for a drink and then picked up some sandwiches that we ate in the gardens by the big wheel.

After our picnic lunch we caught the bus into Paignton where we had an ice cream (sadly I only got to eat half of mine as a resident, hungry seagull pinched the rest!!) and a walk around to the harbour and along the seafront.  From there we caught the bus back to the campsite for the evening, where we enjoyed a lovely meal in the on site bar/restaurant and watched the football on the big screen sat outside the bar.

Saturday was our last full day so not wanting to waste it, we caught the bus from the campsite down into Kingswear where we took the ferry across to Dartmouth for a coffee and a walk around the town and waterside.

From Dartmouth we caught the ferry back across to Kingswear and then the bus into Brixham again for a last wander.  The weather was perfect again.

From Brixham we caught the bus back to the campsite and had lunch in the on site restaurant, as it had been so good the night before.  That afternoon we watched the football, had a shower and then decided to pack up and travel home that evening instead of the next morning, mainly due to the fact it was cooler and while the second football match was on it was much quieter on the roads!

We could not have wished for better weather for this trip.  We now have just over 8 weeks to wait until our next booked trip, due to school holidays (a time we avoid campsites) and the difficulty of travelling in and out of Cornwall (again due to school holidays!).  I'm not sure we'll last that long so watch this space!!!
