Mini Heatwave in October!!!!

The beauty of a motorhome is being able to just go whenever the fancy, or weather (!), takes us and that's what happened last weekend.

We had nothing planned or booked (rare for us!) but watched the forecast closely and to our delight they were right for a change and the 'promised' mini heatwave actually arrived!!!

We decided against travelling too far and headed the short journey south to Newquay.  Porth Beach to be precise, a place we have very fond memories of - our first holiday together, many hotel holidays with family and friends and we nearly bought a cottage there before deciding on Bude!!!!

Porth Beach Touring Park sits just across the road from the beach and out of season is a tidy, quiet site - perfect for us.  We were able to choose our pitch and settled for a nice large, corner pitch right at the bottom of the site.

We arrived Thursday afternoon in glorious sunshine, pitched up and spent the rest of the day sat outside before heading across to the Mermaid Inn (the pub on the beach) for a pint or two later that evening.

Our visit coincided with the high spring tides on Porth Beach.

The sunset that evening was glorious.

Next morning after a lovely lay-in we caught the bus into Newquay for the day.  We used to walk from the site years ago but these days Paddy can't manage the distance.  Once in town we headed towards the harbour area for a walk on the beach in the really warm sunshine.

After a lovely pub lunch in Newquay, sat overlooking the harbour, we caught the bus back to Porth and spent the rest of the day on site sat in the sunshine listening to the football on the radio and reading.

On Saturday morning we got up, had breakfast and decided to spend the day in and around Porth.  We walked onto Porth Island before heading onto the beach (doggie beach ban ended on 30th September - great timing!!!) to let Paddy have a paddle.

After a coffee in the tearooms sat overlooking the beach we headed back to the site for the rest of the day and again just chilled out in the sunshine before having a meal in the Mermaid later that evening.

The temperatures, a steady 23 - 25 degrees was unknown for October but it certainly made for a lovely sneaky trip away in Daisy.  Here's hoping that maybe it'll happen again......VERY SOON!!!
