Brecon Beacons - September 2016

Sadly our last big trip of the year was almost over.  We reluctantly left Barmouth on Friday morning to head to our last campsite in Brecon for a 1 night stop over.

After pitching up we walked into Brecon via the canal where had a salad sat overlooking the castle before a wander around the town.

Once back on site we showered and changed and walked to the local pub for a pint.  We couldn't get a table that evening (it's very popular and the campsite was full!) so we came back and cooked on site.

We now have nothing booked until Christmas in St Ives and New Year in Bristol, however I don't think it'll be long before we're off again!

Beautiful Barmouth and the Mawddach Trail - September 2016

On Tuesday morning it was time to pack up again and travel south through some stunning countryside to our favourite place in Wales, Barmouth.  We had been many times before, right from our very early caravanning days!  Other than B&Bing we have always stayed at Hendre Mynach and did so again this time.  It's a lovely site about a 30 minute stroll into town.  We arrived to rain but after lunch the sun had appeared so we walked into town for a pint and then went back to the same pub for our evening meal.

The next morning we were up early to glorious blue skies ready for our day on our bikes.  We left the site, biked into town then across the rickety railway bridge and onto the Mawddach Trail, a 9-mile stretch from Barmouth to Dolgellau along the old railway line.  The views of the mountains, sea and estuary are stunning, especially on a glorious day.  We had wanted to do this ride for years and the day we chose couldn't have been any better.  We stopped off in Dolgellau for some picnic supplies and we sat and ate it along the estuary with fantastic views back to Barmouth and that bridge!  On the way back we detoured slightly over to Fairbourne but there wasn't a great deal there sadly!  Once back we sorted the bikes, showered and changed and walked into Barmouth again for our evening meal and a few pints in a lovely traditional Welsh bar.

The next, and last full day, in Barmouth was very warm but overcast.  There was still a lovely light for photographs so we walked into town where we spent the day.  We had coffee in Davy Jones Locker overlooking the bridge, a picnic lunch sat overlooking the sea and we walked up to the bridge.  We picked up supplies from the local Co-op on the way back and had a BBQ on site that evening before walking to the beach to watch the sunset.  A perfect end to another fantastic stay in our favourite places in Wales.
