BONUS! Sneaky Weekend in Porth, Newquay - June 2018

I was not expecting to be away again until our next big trip at the end of June, or that the weather would be so good for so long, but we made a last minute decision and snook away last weekend for 2 nights.  We only made the short trip from home to Newquay to stay in Porth on one of our regular sites.

For the middle of June the site was very busy but we bagged ourselves a lovely riverside, grass pitch at the far end which was much quieter.  We didn't arrive until 5.30pm so pitched up and walked to the pub on the beach (right outside the campsite), where we came across our friends from Barnstaple who'd spookily decided to do the same last minute trip!  After a brief catch up with them we walked into Newquay for a meal.  Once back on site we spent the rest of the balmy evening sat outside our friends motorhome having a proper catch up.

On Saturday the weather was still glorious, but very hot and humid.  We walked into Newquay again, had a picnic lunch sat overlooking the harbour and beach and then walked back to chill out on site in the sunshine.  That evening we met up with our friends again for a meal in the pub.

Sadly the weekend was over far too quickly and on Sunday morning it was time to pack up and go home.

The best trips are always the unplanned, unexpected ones especially when the weather is so good.  I'm not expecting another one between now and the end of June but never say never!!!

First Big Trip of 2018 - Bristol

Our last 3 nights were spent in Bristol, staying on our favourite city site at Baltic Wharf.  We try and stay here a couple of times each year but it's getting harder and harder to get a pitch.  The weather had changed from glorious to cloudy and muggy for our stay but it didn't stop us getting out and about. We walked into the city each day along the waterfront (a different route each time) and on our last day we walked into Bedminster to see the fantastic street art.

Our 9 nights away flew by this time, probably because the weather was so good and we managed to cram lots into each day.  We now have our fingers crossed for the same kind of weather for our next booked trip at the end of June, another 'big trip' of 9 nights/10 days. We'll be taking our bikes again this trip, all being well with Mike's dodgy knees, as we've booked a site in the New Forest and one along the Kennet and Avon canal.
