Canals & Cotswolds July 2014 - Devizes, Kennet & Avon Canal and a Devon Stop-Over!

Friday was our last full day on the Devizes site (sadly).  Once again it was sunny, dry and warm to start with so we biked into Devizes again, up past the locks and into town for a wander.  Thankfully it was less busy than market day but still as warm!  We then biked on a bit further to Devizes Wharf before heading back to site for a shower, via that lovely tea room for a brew!

By late afternoon we were ready to get out again so we walked along the Kennet & Avon canal to the Barge Inn at Seend where we had a fantastic meal followed by an evening stroll home.

We were off the next morning for our last night, a quick stop at the newly refurbished CC site near Ottery St Mary. We managed to get out on our bikes from the site that afternoon down into Ottery but the push back up the 20% hill was a killer.  Another nice meal in the local pub that night and we were done and on our way home come Sunday morning.

We'd had a fantastic 10 days away and were so lucky with the weather again.  Great times meeting up with old friends too.

Our next trip isn't until September.  We cannot cope with the busy campsites during August or the travelling in and out of Cornwall so a long wait for us it will be!

Canals & Cotswolds July 2014 - Caen Hill Locks, Devizes

On Thursday morning we awoke to glorious blue skies and sunshine again so after a decent breakfast we set up the bikes and biked in the opposite direction to the stunning Caen Hill Locks...29 locks in all and all busy with people spending 4 - 5 hours to reach the top lock!   The tow path was busy with bikers, walkers, dogs and people generally enjoying the sunshine.

On reaching the locks, we biked a bit further into Devizes, famous for its Wadworth Brewery.  It was market day so very busy and far too hot for me.  We had a short walk around and came back out and had lunch in the tea room that sits overlooking the top of the locks.

That evening friends from Newbury visited us on site and we sat outside eating fish and chips with them!
