Chirk, Llangollen & Horseshoe Falls - September 2016

On Friday morning we were moving on from beautiful Shrewsbury (somewhere we will definitely return to).  We were heading into Wales to the little town of Chirk, just a short half hour trip from Shrewsbury.  We'd had stayed there before so knew what to expect.

Our first afternoon was spent lunching in a local bistro and then wandering around Chirk, down to the aqueduct and viaduct and through the Chirk Tunnel, which is VERY dark and seemed to go on forever.  We didn't have torches with us (as it was daylight/afternoon) but found some helpful walkers who did so we were guided by their lights back to the campsite for the afternoon.  That evening we ate in the Bistro again because it was so good!

On Saturday we got the bikes off the rack (first time we'd used them in a year), set them up, made a picnic and headed off along the canal for the day.  First stop was Trevor Basin and the famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (which we have never been brave enough to walk over!).

Next stop was Llangollen where we sat along the river Dee, watching some not very good kyakers (!), rowing through the white water.  Once we'd finished our picnic we moved on and biked to Horseshoe Falls before returning to the campsite where we spent the evening reading because we had no satellite TV signal on site!!!
