New Forest - June 2018

Wow, what a summer we're having!  I was a kid when this last happened!!!

How lucky we were to have booked our latest trip back in December, obviously knowing what the weather would be like (not!).

We left home, in Bude, early on the Friday morning and travelled east to our first campsite right in the middle of the New Forest.  We had a fuel stop on the way, both diesel and food, and due to Mike's knee (the good one) playing up whilst driving (not good for the future) we had another short stop for him to move around.  All in all what should've been a 3.5 hour journey took us just over 5 hours with the usual Friday afternoon sticky spots being to blame!

We spent our first afternoon sat outside in the sunshine, had a BBQ and then a lovely evening walk in the forest.

On Saturday morning we were up early to get the bikes ready for a ride out into the forest.  We biked down the Rhinefield Drive and across towards Bolderwood where we saw highland cattle and a deer.  We had planned to biked to the deer sanctuary but Mike had a few issues with his bike so we biked back into Brockenhurst to get it checked out.  Once sorted we picked up a few supplies in the village and headed back to the site for a light lunch and a shower.  Later that evening we walked into Brockenhurst from the site for a pub meal and a few pints.

On Sunday we were up and off on our bikes again, this time to the pretty village of Burley where we stopped off for a coffee on the way, at Holmsley, and had a lovely lunch sat outside the Cider Pantry in Burley.  We BBQ'd again that evening on site in between enjoying the fabulous weather and watching the world cup matches!
