Devon & Cornwall September - Gwithian Sands
The next morning the sun was trying to come through so we decided to take a walk on the beach at Gwithian. There didn't seem to be many people around, other than surfers enjoying the waves. The views over to St Ives were stunning but the black clouds seemed to be heading in our direction so we had lunch at the Sandsifter at Gwithian Towans before heading back to the camp site for the afternoon.
Devon & Cornwall September - Godrevy seals!
If you walk further around the coast from Godrevy lighthouse there is a small secluded cove with resident grey seals. We wandered up there to see if there were any seals there that day and found there to be between 30 and 40 grey seals on the beach below. What a fantastic sight. There were lots of people milling around just enjoying watching them.
I did take rather a lot of photos of them!!!
That evening we visited the Red River Inn (the pub next door to the campsite) and had a lovely meal - a great end to another lovely day!

That afternoon we walked from the site through Gwithian Towans and the sand dunes to Godrevy Lighthouse (National Trust).
Devon & Cornwall September - Gwithian Farm, near Hayle
After 2 dull days the sun began to shine again, just in time for us to move onto Gwithian Farm (a return visit for us to this lovely site near Hayle). We arrived early but were allowed onto our pitch (nice owners!).
The site was packed. We hadn't expected it to be with it not being school holidays but it was buzzing!

Devon & Cornwall September - Camping Caradon, near Looe
On Sunday morning we were up, packed and ready to leave (sadly!) by late morning. We headed west, and back into Cornwall, to our next campsite between Looe and Polperro.
We spent 2 nights here, not doing very much at all! It looked like the weather was on the change. We had a few short, sharp showers but nothing to write home about. Paddy couldn't be left on site here so we thought about catching the bus down to Polperro on the Monday morning but it was packed....and so was the next one....so we spent 2 days on site just relaxing.

Devon & Cornwall September - Ross Park, Ipplepen
On Saturday morning after a lovely lay-in and leisurely breakfast we had to pack up and move pitches (we were aware of this when we booked so it wasn't a problem). By 11 am we had moved to another lovely pitch the other side of the site.
It was a bit overcast and much cooler than the day before so we were able to leave Paddy in the camper for an hour or so and walk, via a farm track and public footpath, to the local garden centre where we bought some local cider chutney and cake for our lunch (and good it was too!).
We spent the rest of the afternoon back on site with Paddy (and the local wildlife) enjoying being outside.
That evening we had another lovely meal in the on-site restaurant.

Devon & Cornwall September - Ross Park, Ipplepen
We are usually very lucky with the weather for our September holiday and 2012 did not disappoint! Early September we headed east to Ross Park, Ipplepen for our first 2 nights.
Ross Park has been voted the overall best caravan site of 2012 and we are not at all surprised. It was our first time staying here having been trying to book for the best part of 18 months.
On arrival the skies were blue and it was very warm too, just what the doctor ordered.
We pitched up, got the awning out and sat outside and had our lunch.
They cater very well for dogs and have at least 4 or 5 great dogs walks on site (somewhere they can run free and each with bins and bags provided!). They even have a purpose built dog shower, complete with warm water (!), a hairdryer and ramp to access the table (and it's all free to use). We walked Paddy that afternoon and the views over Dartmoor were stunning.
In the evening we booked a table in their tropical conservatory and had a lovely roast beef dinner - nice way to end a perfect day!
