Cornwall - May 2017 - Gwithian, near Hayle

On Tuesday morning it was time to move on again and it was tipping down!  We had pre-booked a pitch on Gwithian Farm campsite so knew we'd get on this one and when we arrived it was very quiet.  We had a lovely hard standing pitch in a small section, tucked away amongst the palm trees with a view over the church and thatched farmhouse.

We spent most of Tuesday in Bessy reading and relaxing as the weather wasn't great.  There was a fantastic pub just outside the site so we spent the evening there!

On Wednesday we got up to cloudy skies but it was dry so walking boots and waterproofs were the order of the day.  We walked straight from the site onto Gwithian Towans and down onto the beach.  We headed towards Godrevy where we had coffee in the little National Trust cafĂ© just off the beach.

After coffee we headed up the coast path on the headland to Mutton Cove, where we hoped to see the seal colony that reside there.  We were so lucky there were around 60 seals down in the cove, and some with pups.

From Mutton Cove we walked back along the coastal path, with stunning views of Godrevy lighthouse and across to St Ives Bay, and then on through the local nature reserve back to the campsite.  We saw, and heard, so many skylarks singing their hearts out.

The rest of the day and evening were stunning.  The sun finally made an appearance and we had a lovely sunset on site.  We spent the evening in the pub again!!!

Cornwall - May 2017 - Truro

We hadn't booked anywhere for our next 2 nights but felt sure we'd be OK for a pitch at Carnon Downs near Truro as it was still out of season.  We arrived to find that most of the hard standings were full!  They finally offered us one tucked away off the main site, nice and quiet!
We pitched up and had a quick bite to eat and then walked into Truro, a lovely 4-mile walk along the old railway line.  We spent the afternoon in Truro and had our evening meal there before returning to the campsite on the bus!

True to form, we had one good day and one bad day weather-wise and Monday was the 'bad' day.  It was overcast and drizzly but it didn't stop us getting out and about.  We walked down to the local garden centre for a mooch and a coffee before heading down to Devoran for a walk along the creek.

We spent that evening in Bessy chilling out!

Cornwall - May 2017 - Looe

Finally it was time for our first 'big trip' of 2017 and we had decided to stay 'local' and tour around south Cornwall.  We had booked our first 2 nights at the Looe CC site to enable us to spend some time with my Dad & Step-Mum while they were staying in Looe for the week.

We arrived on Friday afternoon to dull skies but set up in the dry and had lunch in Bessy.

We had arranged to meet up with Dad & Sue in Looe, which was a short 2 mile walk (downhill!) from the site.  We set off and got half way and the heavens literally opened! We were soaked through to the skin so decided to walk back to the site to shower and change.  Later that evening Dad picked us up and we enjoyed a lovely meal and a few drinks in town before getting a taxi back up to the site.

Saturday, thankfully, could not have been any different.  We awoke to lovely blue skies and warm sunshine.  So, after breakfast we decided to walk down into Looe via Millendreath and then up along the coastal path.  So glad we did as it was beautiful.  Once in Looe we met up with Dad & Sue again and had a pasty on the beach for lunch.  We spent the rest of the day in Looe wandering around the town and harbour and then walked back up to the site for the evening.

We got soaked on Friday and sunburnt on Saturday.  That's the UK for you!
